Hey there! My name's Lizzy, it's a delight to meet you. Welcome to my little corner of the internet! Thanks for hangin' with me.

By day, I am an operating room nurse. I scrub in to all kinds of surgeries, and I circulate many more. I got my BSN in 2021.  Some years later, I also got a minor in creative writing from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. However, my love for writing started much earlier.

I've been writing since I was about ten, but I didn't fall in love with poetry until fourteen. In that fateful year, I participated in my first poetry slam.

I should've known that I was a goner from then on.

I fell in love with poetry. Hook, line, and sinker. I adored the lack of rules. It felt rebellious, like it was allowed to breathe entirely on its own. It was allowed to bend the rules of literature. It was vulnerable. I loved it from then on.

There is tremendous power in the written word. If you can really put someone inside your heart and mind with a few words or phrases-that is power. To move others is power. To convey is to wield.

My particular writing style centers around rhyme, cadence, and honesty. I usually start with a single stanza and build around it to tell a story.

I've pulled over to the side of the road to jot down some lines before. It is very reflexive for me. When inspiration strikes, I do my best to harness it.

For the longest time, I thought that I was no good at it.

But, holy shit, did I enjoy writing poetry.

I created an Instagram account, anonymously, to share my work with the internet. I really just wanted somewhere to put my work. Somewhere to catalogue it.

Then, well, I was surprised at the positive feedback.

I found that there was power in my pen-my voice.

I grew to become very protective of my pieces, but also very proud.

One day, I decided to ditch the alias. I started writing under my name. I decided that I didn't care what others thought. I was going to write anyway. I was going to continue to be vulnerable and heartbreakingly honest. I started getting publications and won a couple of poetry contests. I learned that I really loved my work and, sometimes, the world did too.

So I collected my favorite poems into a book and sent it to a publisher. My publisher, Alien Buddha Press, stood by me to bring my work from my haphazard journals to the written page.

I have been irrevocably changed since then.

I am not afraid of my voice anymore. It is my hope that I can inspire that feeling in everyone that I cross. It is my firm belief that everyone has a poet in them. Where there lives inspiration, there will also live a poem.

So... About me

I write from my home in St. Louis, Missouri. I live here with my husband, our dog, and two cats. I continue to share my poems here and on Instagram, primarily using them to connect with other writers as well.

I wish that I could tell you that I have more formal education and a career in writing, but that would be false. I just enjoy the act of writing in my signature style. I write about some pretty heavy topics-sexual assault, mental health, social justice, medicine, and so much more. It can be a difficult read at times, but I don't care. This is my journey. This is my voice. Stick around if it resonates. I would be more than happy to have you.

When I'm not word-vomiting on the page, you can find me embroidering, reading, hiking, or spending time with loved ones.

Keep in touch with me, yeah?
