The Human Condition Exhibition

A collection of poems by Lizzy Brendel

This is not a family-friendly collection of work. This series is the raw and unfiltered perspective of a deeply resilient woman in her twenties. This is a tale of deep and intense heartbreak, assault, trauma, rage, and all-consuming love (with a little bit of lust). This is an incredibly varied body of work that explores musings of medicine, femininity and social justice in the modern world, sweeping romance, and debilitating grief. Put into cadence and rhyme, this is my mosaic of experience throughout the last decade.

I called this The Human Condition Exhibition because that’s what it feels like to me. It is an exhibit of works that detail what it means to be human. What it has meant for me to be human and my journey to getting here. It truly is my soul completely undressed. It is raw, whimsical, and the most vulnerable thing I’ve ever created. And damn, if it isn’t beautiful.

These poems are about taking up space in a world that feels like it doesn’t want you.

These poems are what it feels like to stay anyway.

It is my hope that you will proceed with caution, but choose to proceed nevertheless.

Praise for The Human Condition Exhibition

"An intimate, bruising walk through a young life remade by trauma, medicine, love, and rage-a sequence of poems and pieces that read like a confessional diary worn into verse.

It is brave, uncompromising, and often heartbreakingly honest about sexual assault, grief, mental health, and survival."

-Wrote a Book

Hi! I'm Lizzy, it's very nice to have you here on my little corner of the internet. I released my very first collection of poems in December of 2025. My book is titled The Human Condition Exhibition and details my life for the past decade.

I write, quite reflexively, from my home in St. Louis, Missouri. I enjoy summarizing my life into poetic verse and phrase. When I'm not doing that, I am working as an operating room nurse.

When I'm not writing or working, you can find me embroidering, spending time with my cats and dog, hiking, reading, or spending time with friends. Click the button below to learn more about me, my writing journey, and my life!
